Okay, it’s not what it sounds like, but as Laura Rozen reports, it’s also not the average “communist party political convention.”
It’s being dubbed “Beijing Fashion Week.” But it’s a Chinese Communist Party political convention.
China’s political elite have gathered in Beijing this week for the annual twin meetings of the National People’s Congress and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Congress (CPCCC). And Chinese netizens are taking to Chinese micro-blogging sites to note that some of their Communist Party representatives are turning up decked out for the annual political powwows in some rather conspicuously high-end French and Italian designer luxury labels–Chanel, Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Bottega Veneta, among them, according to a report in MP Life, translated via the English-language ChinaSmack blog.
