Classy: Sen. Menendez reportedly blocking resolution honoring Thatcher; Update: Resolution passes

http://twitter.com/#!/RameshPonnuru/status/324166862093033472

Will the Senate pass a resolution to honor the late Margaret Thatcher? Not if Sen. Bob Menendez has anything to say about it.

As the Daily Caller reported yesterday — and National Review’s Ramesh Ponnuru has evidently confirmed — Menendez is responsible for holding up a proposed Senate resolution to “honor the life, legacy, and example of British Prime Minister Baroness Margaret Thatcher.”

@dloesch @rameshponnuru What an Idiot! What possible reason could Menendez have to hold a simple resolution to honor Margaret Thatcher!

— Joe Covey (@Joe_Covey) April 16, 2013

Paying tribute to a champion of freedom is apparently just not that important to the priorities-challenged senator.

Weird, I thought he loved women MT @dailycaller: Menendez holding up vote on resolution honoring Margaret Thatcher – bit.ly/11hJETi

Not his demographic MT @rameshponnuru Have confirmed… that the senator blocking the Thatcher resolution is Menendez D., N.J.

Senator Menendez would totally be for the Thatcher resolution if some underage hookers he didn’t have to pay were involved.

It is an absolute disgrace the U.S. Senate is not giving Margaret Thatcher the honor she is due twitter.com/RameshPonnuru/…

— Senator Ted Cruz (@SenTedCruz) April 16, 2013

It is — but what else would you expect from a disgrace like Menendez?

Update:

Sen. Menendez proposed his own version of a resolution:

Menendez removes language about defeating terrorism in Thatcher resolution bit.ly/11o0QXf

— Alex Pappas (@AlexPappas) April 16, 2013

Unfortunately for him, the effort didn’t pan out. The resolution in its original language has just passed:

The Senate just adopted the resolution honoring Lady Margaret Thatcher by unanimous consent.

— Heritage Action (@Heritage_Action) April 16, 2013

Senate just passed McConnell’s resolution honoring Margaret Thatcher by unanimous consent

— Alex Pappas (@AlexPappas) April 16, 2013

Very happy to see Senate Democrats finally stopped objecting to a resolution honoring the life of Margaret Thatcher.

— Rory Cooper (@rorycooper) April 16, 2013

Indeed.
