Comedian Recalls Last Phone Call With Robin Williams, Realizes It Was A Final Goodbye
Comedian Billy Connolly and Robin Williams were close friends before Williams’ death.
Connolly was diagnosed with Parkinson’s about a year before Williams, so Williams would consult Connolly about how to live with the disease.
Most recently, Connolly opened up about a phone call he had with Williams just days before the “Good Will Hunting” star took his own life. Connolly said,
During the call he kept telling me he loved me. I said ‘I know.’ But he kept repeating it saying ‘do you really know I love you.’ I was thinking what the f*ck is he on about? After his death I thought ‘oh my God he was saying goodbye.’
Connolly also mentioned he got a call from a California on the same day Williams died. It was four in the morning, and Connolly was asleep while on vacation in Malta. He let the phone ring and went back to bed.
When I got up it was a Californian number. But he didn’t have my Maltese number… so it couldn’t have been him. It couldn’t have.
Hopefully, it wasn’t Williams reaching out to Connolly in his final hours of need. Otherwise, that would certainly weigh heavily upon Connolly’s conscious. All in all, it’s a sad story, but time does heal all wounds.
