YouSendIt Becomes Hightail, Offers Unlimited Cloud Storage for $15.99
File sharing company YouSendIt announced on Wednesday it is changing its name to Hightail and will be rolling out updates to its desktop and mobile apps in the coming weeks.
Although the company didn’t detail how the desktop and mobile apps will be redesigned, it said customers will be offered unlimited storage for $15.99 a month. It also plans to expand in more international markets in the near future.
YouSendIt, which has about 43 million global users, said the rebranding move represents the future vision of the company. The service has been helping people send large documents since its launch in 2004.
“The launch of Hightail is more than simply a new name,” said Hightail CEO Brad Garlinghouse in a statement. “It signifies the beginning of a new company with new products and a new way of thinking. We have already far outgrown our original use case of only sending large files, and our name should reflect where we are as a company today as well as where we want to go in the future. We’re renewing our commitment to helping our customers keep their ideas moving and — of course — making sure their life’s work doesn’t get dropped or stuck in a box.”
The news comes just one day after competitor Dropbox launched a new suite of tools called Dropbox Platform, which opens up its service to developers and aims to simplify how apps access documents stored in the cloud across different devices. The company also said its vision is to replace your hard drive.
YouSendIt’s change to Hightail puts its service more in line to compete with cloud-storage services such as Dropbox and Box. Hightail is also dropping YouSendIt’s signature paper-airplane logo too and introducing one with bold lettering and a red line above the “H.”
